Jay Shepard, 12-Dec-1942 - 15-Oct-2007
John James "Jay" Shepherd III, 64 of Boxholm, Iowa, died Monday October 15, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Jay was born on December 12, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John James Shepherd Jr. and Mira Delores (Swigert) Shepherd. He graduated with the Grand Community High School class of 1961. Following his education he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked as an on air coordinator at WMC TV and as a radio announcer at WTGR radio station. He also worked as a mechanic for his uncle, Bob Shepherd, at Bob's Honda in Memphis where he met and road motorcycles with Elvis Presley. Jay was united in marriage to Karen Reinberg on December 12, 1984, in Memphis. The couple returned to the family farm in Boxholm in 1991, and Jay became employed as an electrician for the Iowa Department of Transportation. Jay enjoyed photography, woodworking, music, computers and loved gadgets. He was a 4-H Leader in Boone County where he taught model rocketry. Most of all Jay enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Karen Shepherd of Boxholm, Iowa; children, Brandy (Jamie) Meyer of Churdan, Iowa, Amy Birdsong of Boone, Iowa, Adam Shepherd of Boone, Iowa, Erica (Gino) Wilson of Holiday Florida and Allis (Ron) Wilhelm of Snoqualmie, Washington; four grandchildren, Madeleine, Benjamin, Christian and Sayvon; his mother Mira Delores Shepherd of Dayton, Iowa; and two brothers Thomas Michael Shepherd of Los Altos, California and William Douglas Shepherd of Washington Island, Wisconsin. he is preceded in death by his father John James Shepherd Jr.
